Oh yes, it’s in-between season again … and it’s sooo boring! No guests, no children to play with. So it’s time once more to visit my friends at the hotel. Oh no, at this time of year the cool village underground in Serfaus isn’t even running. So I’ll just have to grab my short little stubby legs and hop into the village centre.
Into the village I go, along Dorfbahnstraße and then a sharp turn to the right … but what’s THAT?!?!? A terrible noise, the Haus Greiter completely wrapped up … I have to take a closer look!
Oh, and there comes the boss around the corner! “Hey Paul, what’s going on here?” – “Oh hello Netti, nice of you to visit us again! We’re renovating Haus Greiter.”
“Renovating … are you giving the house a sauna or what, it’s wrapped all the way around.” – “No, Netti, not ‘saunieren’, ‘sanieren’ – renovating! That means we’re sealing the walls and putting in new windows as well.” – “But why? I really liked the old windows, they were so nicely old-fashioned.” – “Exactly, and because they were old, they didn’t keep in the warmth very well. We’re making such an effort to heat in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way, and then we’d just be heating out the window.” – “Wait, what? I don’t get it.”
“Hmm, how can I explain … the new windows make sure the warmth stays inside the house. And so that the heat doesn’t escape unnecessarily through the walls, we’re also – as you call it – wrapping the house. That means the walls are being covered with insulation so that in winter the heat from the heating stays inside the building! Anyway, Netti, I’ve got to run now!”
Netti’s head is spinning … hmm, so it IS kind of like a sauna … but a sauna from the inside out … so ‘sanieren’ really must come from ‘saunieren’ … I think that’s cool … I’ll go and see if I can help! A sauna for a house – only in Serfaus could you find something like that!
