What a truly dreamy summer we had here in Serfaus. One day more gorgeous than the next. And every now and then, a proper mountain thunderstorm at night. Okay, I could have done without those, but our boss says they're really, really important so the grass can grow well for our hay. Well, if it's necessary, I'll put up with it, even though a thunderstorm like that can be quite spooky.
But Paul also said, "it's the end of August now, so autumn is starting to creep in around here." Oh I see, I guess he means summer is over — perfectly normal, nothing special … A bit lost in thought, I wander through the village and suddenly notice straw, pumpkins, and corn lying around everywhere. Well, not just lying around — actually, it looks really lovely.
One street corner further along, I run into a few nice men from the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis Tourist Board. I really have to ask them what's going on! "Hey Netti, we haven't seen you in ages!" "Yeah, I've been sooo busy with all the exciting guests we have at the riding stable. So many lovely kids I had to play with. But now the summer holidays are over, and things will get boring again at the Darrehof."
"But Netti, the autumn holidays are coming up soon, then it'll get fun again!" … "Autumn holidays, that autumn word again — what's so special about autumn that you need holidays for it, and actually, what I wanted to ask you: what are you all doing here in the village?" "We're decorating Serfaus for autumn. The Autumn of Indulgence is about to start with lots of great events — right in time for the autumn holidays. Don't you know that autumn is a very special season? It's harvest time, harvest festival is coming, people celebrate the fruits of a whole year's work. Everything turns colourful, the light takes on a very special glow, the air is clear and crisp, the views are fantastic. Autumn is the time when farm work settles down and comes to rest. There's celebrating and indulging … oh Netti, whenever I talk about autumn, I just can't stop gushing!!!"
…Goodness me, somehow autumn always just passed me by … "And why should guests come to us up in the mountains for that?" "Well, because we decorate everything so beautifully … no, just kidding! For our guests, autumn is the time for an active getaway full of indulgence. The cooler temperatures are perfect for hiking, biking, or — you of all creatures should know this — riding too! And the colourful landscape with its wonderful views is simply a dream in autumn. On top of that, here in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis region there's a whole range of culinary offerings around the Autumn of Indulgence. You can even take cooking classes or a bread-baking course. It's the combination of an active getaway and an indulgent one. And that the kids in our region never get bored either — well, that's already well known!"
Okay, I've never looked at autumn quite like that before. But actually, they're right. Ooh, and all the things you can do in autumn … flying kites, digging through colourful leaves, hunting for chestnuts … and with a bit of luck, maybe even building a snowman up on the Lazid already … hehe, that's going to be fun!
