Our Animals are one of a Kind!
A joy for young and old alike…
Is your child like those who believe milk only comes in tetrapaks from the supermarket? Or that there are only purple cows, like the chocolate packaging? And they only know of goats from "Peter" in the cartoon Heidi? Then it is definitely time for your children to experience a "holiday for understanding" with us.
On our organic farm: where children are allowed to touch the animals and have their imaginations touched as well! Here, the animals are fed according to strict organic regulations using our own farm produce. The animals at our farm are treated as partners and friends of their keepers, and never as machines for food production.
Our motley crew of playful animals is a paradise for children! The coal-black dwarf sheep Lupo has the personality of a dog, so he is often called "Schund" (sheep-dog) or "Schoodle" (sheep-poodle). The donkey, Emma, roams about the whole farm at her leisure searching for any special donkey treat and always radiating the most impressive calm and serenity. Our bunny, Mucki, always thrills the kids each summer with a troupe of baby bunnies for children to fall in love with. Some of the bunnies have even found new homes as a result. The cows (Tyrolean grauviehs with a silly lick of hair and adorable rolling eyes) spend the summer on the wide Komperdell meadows, waiting for visitors from Darrehof to take a hike out to see them. In autumn, they return to the stables to birth their new calves.
The stars of the whole show, of course, are our Haflingers, which will hopefully have several healthy new foals in the new year. And one thing is for sure – we are always collecting more! Whenever we find out about a very special animal, we always "add it to the collection" for yet another surprise for the children at Darrehof.
